Guðmundur Thoroddsen - Things
On display are things. Things that serve no other purpose but to stimulate the visual senses of the viewer. They are a product of material cravings and only sway to the laws of aesthetics. Their functionality is questionable and they strive to escape any figurative likeness. Succumbing to this materialism, soon reveals its flaws. No matter how much a thing is looked at and how much it temporarily quenches a visual thirst it never seems to satisfy it fully. Therein lies perhaps the allure of things; they give a brief and false feeling of fulfillment to an eye that in turn always craves more.
